Catholic schools are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion that embraces and responds to the diverse educational needs of all students—regardless of their abilities, background or aspirations. This inclusive approach is aligned with the teachings of the Church and complies with national legislative requirements.
In accordance with the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005), schools are required to make education accessible to students with disabilities. These standards specifically address enrolment, participation, curriculum access, student services and the elimination of harassment and victimisation.
At Mother of Good Counsel School, the enrolment of students requiring significant educational adjustments is guided by the Enrolment Application and Support Procedures for Students Requiring Significant Educational Adjustments. This collaborative process involves parents and carers, students, teachers and school leadership, and student services representatives. Together, these stakeholders work in partnership to identify the learner’s needs, clarify required adjustments, and assess the implications for teaching and support within the school setting.
The school community has access to a range of internal and external support services, including our Leader of Diversity, advisory teachers, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and counsellors. Where appropriate, the school also collaborates with external agencies to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to meeting the individual needs of every student.
