Mother of Good Counsel School believes that a positive and comprehensive introduction to school life is imperative to the success of children and parents. For some Prep students, this is their first experience of a school environment and for some parents, the first time they have engaged with a school since they were students themselves. Mother of Good Counsel offers the following process of orientation and induction into Prep:
Prep Transition Program
Across five mornings of Term 4, Mother of Good Counsel runs a Prep Transition Program. This is an opportunity for students and families to gain familiarisation with staff and the school and classroom environments.
While students are engaging with teachers and other pre-prep students, parents gather to hear from key staff regarding the transition to school. Each week, a different topic is presented based school on processes and current, evidence-based research
Week 1
To support a smooth transition to school, prep students begin with a staggered start:
Day 1: Half the confirmed prep students attend
Day 2: The remaining confirmed prep students attend
Day 3: All prep students attend
Over this first week, students move between both classrooms and engage with all staff. Teaching and leadership staff get to know students; their social-emotional needs, the knowledge and skills they already possess and how they engage with other students. From this data, staff create the best possible learning environments for the remainder of the year.
