At Mother of Good Counsel School, our curriculum is guided by the Australian Curriculum, which outlines the essential knowledge, skills, understandings and capabilities students need as they progress through their education. This framework supports high-quality teaching and fosters the attitudes and abilities necessary for students to become active, responsible and informed citizens of the future.

Specialist Learning Areas

Social Emotional Learning
Embedded within all learning is a strong focus on social and emotional wellbeing, which we believe is essential to effective learning and personal growth.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is explicitly taught through the Second Step, Zones of Regulation and Friendoloy programs, which foster the development of five core competencies:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision-making
This whole-school approach extends beyond the classroom to include staff and parent education, creating a shared understanding and consistent support network for students’ wellbeing.
Partnering with Parents
At the start of each school year, classroom teachers lead Parent Information Sessions to outline curriculum expectations, classroom routines, and teaching practices relevant to each year level. These sessions help foster strong partnerships between home and school and provide an important opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher. Attendance is strongly encouraged. Throughout the year, additional information sessions are held to keep parents updated on classroom programs and support family wellbeing.
