At Mother of Good Counsel School, Religious Education is central to our identity and mission. Children are invited to develop a deep and personal relationship with Christ, grounded in an understanding of His unconditional love for all.
Through our formal Religious Education Program (2.5 hours per week), students grow in their knowledge of the Catholic faith and are encouraged to deepen their relationship with God and actively participate in their faith communities. While the primary responsibility for a child’s faith formation rests with parents and carers, MoGC supports this role through prayer, Christian meditation, liturgies, and Masses.
We follow the Brisbane Diocesan Religious Education Guidelines, which focus on two key areas:
- Teaching people religion — building knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith
- Teaching people to be religious — nurturing students in living out their faith through experience and practice
Lessons develop students’ religious literacy, helping them understand the people and events of the Bible and the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church. This foundation enables them to engage with their faith and the wider world in a meaningful, reflective and responsible way.
At Mother of Good Counsel, we:
- Deliver a structured, sequential Religious Education program
- Celebrate faith through regular masses and liturgies
- Encourage daily prayer in a variety of forms
- Promote Christian Meditation as a mindful practice for spiritual wellbeing
- Provide opportunities for living out Gospel values and Mercy traditions
- Help students explore meaning through the person and teachings of Jesus
- Inspire a lifelong love of learning grounded in faith, truth, and responsible action
Our holistic approach engages heart, mind, and spirit, nurturing a strong sense of faith, purpose, and community.
Masses & Liturgies
Students celebrate a Eucharist or Liturgy at least once each term as a class, year level or whole school. Families are invited to attend all eucharistic liturgical celebrations.
Sacramental Program
Year 3-6 students who are baptised in the Catholic Faith are invited to participate in the sacramental program. The sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation programs are coordinated by the parish and supported by the school. Parents and candidates are required to attend a series of preparation sessions. Program information is provided to families in the first term of each year.

Mary Mother of Good Counsel,
we come to you as faithful people
who value honour and truth.
We ask for your guidance and wisdom to live like Jesus.
Help us in the way of generous giving
that we can share your love for all.
We pray for your blessing on our journey.
Mother of Good Counsel,
pray for us and be our guide.
